Frame Drum Workshop ~ Middle Eastern Rhythms & Singing
a weekend of fun and learning
  • Become synchronized with the therapeutic roots of rhythm and discover unique self-expression and confidence.
  • In this workshop we will journey between the hidden realm of vibration and the manifest world of sound through movement, voice, and the Frame Drum.
  • No previous experience required, complete beginners are most welcome. Drums are provided.
  • The workshop is limited to 20 students only so that Rowan can spend ample time with everyone.

If you are an advanced player you will have the opportunity of spending the weekend with a percussion master player, ask questions and improve your technique.

Cost: £65 for both days (£55 concessions)

Over the weekend you will be learning the following:

  • Become aware of the universal principles of wave form, binary nature, mechanics
  • Learn efficient technique for any Frame Drum, empowering you to play tirelessly for many hours
  • Learn to play and sing simultaneously, using the voice freely and also with traditional songs
  • Learn to improvise and stay grounded 'in time'
  • A variety of Frame Drums and shakers will be provided for the workshop.
  • Rowan Storm's signature Frame Drum, the Rowan Storm Dayereh by Cooperman Drum Company, is available for purchase at the workshop (please see below*)

Please bring with you:

  • Your own Frame Drum, shaker, and recording device, if possible Please let us know if you do not have a drum, we will provide you with a drum.
  • Notebook and pencils
  • Lunch for both days
  • A song you love, which you would like to sing and accompany yourself with Frame Drum. (Please bring a CD and written words.) Please let us know if you do not have a drum, we will provide you with a drum.

Rowan Storm is recognized internationally for her drum workshops and Carpet Concerts, singing in several languages, and performances of traditional Middle Eastern percussion instruments. From 2000 to 2006 Rowan studied and performed dayereh and daff in concert tours with the great Master of Classical Persian music, Mohammad Reza Lotfi.

Rowan has been living in Greece since 1993, where she is a leader in the contemporary movement to embrace shared Oriental heritage.
